art
Andy doesn’t claim to be a prolific artist, nor one bound by refinement. His work is driven by a belief in the power of storytelling through art — whether delivered in a raw, instinctive sketch or a carefully composed piece. Each work begins with a message, and unfolds as a visual story, told with honesty over perfection.
MOON, NO MOON
Oil on Art Paper piece by Andy Lampard 2017.
At first glance, Moon, No Moon appears deceptively simple — a quiet image of the moon, and then its absence. Two statements. One presence. One void. But within that quiet, the piece invites a deeper reflection. Where the moon once was, there is now a dark, imperfect circle — a black hole. Not a clean omission, but a mark that lingers. This is not a loss erased, but a loss made visible. The work speaks to the purity of childhood perception — where absence is not abstract, but felt. To a child, when something is missing, it is simply gone. The absence becomes the shape. The gap becomes the thing. And often, in that space, something more is left behind: wonder, longing, imagination. Moon, No Moon reminds us that loss isn’t always emptiness. Sometimes, it’s an invitation — to see, to feel, and to remember what was, or what might still be.
BOOTS AT THE BACK DOOR
Pen & Ink piece by Andy Lampard 2024.
This series of illustrations shines a quiet light on the unsung figures of rural life — the hands that mend, carry, sweep, and serve.
From maids and gamekeepers to joiners and bee keepers, Boots at the Back Door is a tender tribute to those who kept the countryside turning, often unseen, often un-thanked. Drawn with wit, warmth, and a rough-hewn honesty, these portraits honour a way of life both vanished and enduring — not grand, but grounded.

It’s Behind You
Embroidery in antique gilt frame 2018
A lavish, oversized frame draws you in — expectant, intrigued. But nestled at its centre is something almost imperceptible: a delicate embroidery in 6-point text that reads, simply, It’s behind you.
To see it, you must lean close, step forward, engage. And in doing so, you miss the message’s quiet instruction: to look back. This piece plays with theatricality, both in form and idea — echoing the pantomime warning shouted too late. It is a meditation on hindsight, misdirection, and the human tendency to seek meaning ahead rather than around. It’s Behind You invites laughter, discomfort, and reflection. It reminds us that the important thing may not be what's in front of us — but what we've overlooked in getting there.
